Young Hollywood

What's up, guys? Leslie Robbins here, Young Hollywood is on the track at the Long Beach Grand Prix. The engines are roaring behind me. We are going one-on-one with all the drivers.

Revving Up

It's good to see you again.

Young Hollywood

Good to see you again.

Revving Up

Yeah, last weekend we were doing the promotion. I was not wearing my suit or anything, she didn't want to talk to me. Now that I'm racing, now you want to come.

Young Hollywood

All right, I'll take you anytime. Three-time Indy 500 champ, Dancing with the Stars champ. What else would you like to add to your resume?

Revving Up

Wow. Uh, let's see, a win here would be great in Long Beach and a championship as well. So there is a lot, come on, there's a lot that I can do to be honest.

Young Hollywood

Marco Andretti, racing royalty, how are you preparing for the race, which is coming up in less than an hour?

Marco Andretti

Physically, I feel at the top of my game. Um, I I definitely have my work cut out today after starting in the back. I caught a penalty in qualifying, so we have a lot of work to do, but I think uh we have a great car and a great crew, so hopefully we'll be marching forward.

Young Hollywood

Well, tell me about the competition you have out here today. Look at this guy. Are you kidding me? Introduce me to this guy right here.

Revving Up

This guy, AJ Almendinger, you know, uh the team keeps bringing guys with good-looking hair, you know, but so far I still win. Every time I take the helmet out, I still with a good a pretty good shape of hair.

AJ Almendinger

It's a grease spot though. I mean, that you use it, you use it as a hindrance on the racetrack for other competitors that just kind of leaks out of your your helmet. I'm not even gonna mention the double gel that you're using right now. I mean, it is gelled up today. I mean, this is

Young Hollywood

Now tell me, how's road life when you're on the road all the time, not driving on the road, but on the road?

Revving Up

Yeah, I mean, it's a lot of hotels, a lot of airports, a lot of rental cars, a lot of bad food. That's one of the hardest parts is trying to eat well, you know, we're we're athletes, we're trying to stay in shape and exercising and eating well on the road is one of the toughest challenges.

Young Hollywood

So nutrition-wise, how are you preparing for this race? What are you fueling your body with?

Revving Up

Uh the nutrition side of it is big. I mean, the what what we deal with the most physically is just fatigue over the course of a race. These cars on on a street course like this will do three or four G in any direction. Our heart rates get up over 175 beats a minute for the majority of the time that we're out there. So it's uh it's a lot of carbs. Very simple, rice and grilled chicken. On race day, basically I love rice. Most drivers have pasta, I like the rice better.

AJ Almendinger

You were just eating cake like ten minutes ago, so

Revving Up

Really? You had to say that. Wow. So that's the secret. Eat cake. You gotta have the sugar, my man, you know what I'm saying?

AJ Almendinger

A lot of chillies and Applebee's, McDonald's, Burger King,

Revving Up

Those are, yeah, you look it. It's a pretty pretty serious part of what we do. It's a lot of chicken and pasta. That's what it ends up being. Chicken and pasta. We load up a lot of water. So, yeah, we make sure we take care of that before we get in the race car. A lot of water. I'm actually having to go to the restroom like every three minutes right now, so hopefully that stops before the race.

Young Hollywood

Well, speaking of going to the bathroom, when you make a pit stop, do you get to make a pit stop?

Revving Up

Uh, no. So, you you don't have you don't have nearly enough time. I mean the NASCAR boys, they take 15 seconds, which, I mean, that would be a quick pit stop for one of us anyway, but we do it in six. You don't. I mean, between adrenaline and and how much weight you lose just sweating. Uh, it's a 500 mile race. So what do you do? I mean, you know, if you gotta go, you just kind of gotta go. Um, you know, you you apologize ahead of time for all the guys if they gotta clean up.

Young Hollywood

Now, you hold steering wheels, do you do 10 and 2 when you hold a steering wheel?

Revving Up

No, I don't even do 10 and 2.

Young Hollywood

What do you do?

Revving Up

I do the six and four. Bottom. No, I'm kidding. 10 and 2's fine.

Young Hollywood

Is the six and four cooler?

Revving Up

No, it doesn't really matter. I mean, you know, the clock theory is kinda old. You you do whatever.

Young Hollywood

Fastest you've ever gone in that car?

Revving Up

231 miles an hour. Over 226 miles an hour, so we're going like 240 down the front straight. That's that's a huge rush. I think that's that's why we all do it is for that for that top speed. 242 average in Fontana.

Young Hollywood

And the thoughts going through your mind when you're going that fast?

Revving Up

That you want to do 243. That's the that's the thing that we have, you always want to go a little faster.

Young Hollywood

Killer. Killer. Can I sit in the seat?

Revving Up

Yeah, sure.

Young Hollywood

Really? Okay.

Revving Up

Of course.

Young Hollywood

I promise I won't pee in the seat. Is that?

Revving Up

No, I, well, I appreciate that.

Young Hollywood

Do I step up on this?

Revving Up

Yeah, so you step here. Okay. Slide your legs down in there. There you go. There it is. Custom fit, right? Is that it? That's it.

Young Hollywood

Oh my god. This is unlike anything I've ever sat in in my life.

Revving Up

So you can see with our steering wheel a lot of the a lot of you know you can see there's all kinds of buttons and switches and all this kind of stuff. These are the paddles on the back are up shift and down shift. Then these paddles just below those are for the clutch, so when you come into the pits everything we don't have a it's just brake and gas down by your feet. We have a drink bottle in the car, so if you need some water while you're driving, you can get a little bit of a drink.

Young Hollywood

I like the blue button that says drink.

Revving Up

Yep.

Young Hollywood

Cocktail, please.

Revving Up

Yeah, right? At the end of the day, it's not really that uncomfortable. It's a lot of stuff that we have to do. The seat that you're sitting in is form fitted to my body. So we everybody has their own custom seats and um it's actually a pretty a pretty cool deal.

Young Hollywood

I'm actually digging the clothes. I might want to change.

Revving Up

It's a good look. It's a good look. I think you could pull it off.

Young Hollywood

Can I? Let's try this. Let's try this. Here we go actually.

Revving Up

I've got a spare one sitting right here. It's like the most comfortable, it's like stepping into a dream.

Young Hollywood

Okay, I'm gonna. That's how comfortable it is. Step into a dream. Yes. And then go in a car and live a nightmare. It's tight. And I'm sweating.

Revving Up

What she doesn't know is that's a used suit. I've already swet in that one. Boots on. There you go. Now you got it.

Young Hollywood

I'm sweating. But I feel really cool.

Revving Up

See, you're sweating and there's like we're in the shade, there's a nice breeze. So imagine getting strapped into that thing, going out in the sun and like pounding around and working really hard for the next two hours.

Young Hollywood

So what kind of moves on the dance floor can you bring behind the wheel?

Revving Up

Oh boy. Well, basically the hip you do not move. You don't do this, you know?

Young Hollywood

Let me see AJ, can you do that?

AJ Almendinger

No, I can't.

Young Hollywood

Come on. Let me see how you do it. Let's do it. You go to figure eight, the figure eight. Oh, look at you. Oh my God, I like her. Okay, we better stop.

Revving Up

Yeah, we better stop right now.
