I'm Oliver Travino here at Universal City Walk outside the It Sugar store, about to interview tennis sensation Maria Sharapova. She's got a candy line, Sugar Pover. Let's check it out. Maria Sharapova, how are you? You're looking gorgeous as ever.
Thank you. Thank you very much.
And here we are at It Sugar because you've got as if this woman doesn't do enough, she's now got her own candy line, Sugar Pover.
Yes, I launched my own candy line three months ago in New York. And this is um the West Coast launch um at the It Sugar store, Universal Studios.
What inspired you to start a candy line? Are you a big have you got a sweet tooth?
I do. I love food and I have a huge sweet tooth and I I really wanted to own my own business because I've been part of really nice partnerships and things, but I really wanted to invest my time and my money into something and this started about two years ago and and finally three months ago we launched it in New York. Um and it's been a huge success, the the recognition, um, you know, the excitement around the brand has been fantastic and we're launching it all around the world next year, so it's very exciting.
Now you are an athlete, so you have to stay in shape. What's your fresh take on a healthy lifestyle?
My fresh take. I'm very lucky that I work out for a living. I I really, you know, I I like to take care of my body and, you know, I think experience really helps because I know what works for me and also food, you know, is very important, you know, to to know what works for you diet-wise and also in moderation with with exercising and um, I try to stay away from the gym and do things outside even though even though my sport requires me to be in the gym, you know, to get
It does get boring. I can relate there, definitely. I can relate there.
A little bit, cuz it's like a factory. Everyone's like working out and it's like, I don't know.
Now you're from Russia. What was your favorite candy growing up?
I had so many. We have great little chocolates in Russia, but when I came to the states, actually in Russia, we don't have any gummies, like the gummy candy. So when I came to the states, I was like, wow, what is this? Like I would go to a movie theater and I would choose all the different ones and I was so fascinated by it that actually I was bringing it back to Russia. Um my friends were like, wow, we've never seen or tasted this. So the it was actually really fun to to start with the gummy.
That's the way to your heart with the gummy line. If only I had have bought some gummy bears with me. This could have been going a lot better. Now we are in Hollywood. If you could play tennis with any celebrity, who would it be?
Oh, that's a tough one. Will Ferrell.
Will Ferrell. You know what? He does play tennis as well. He actually plays at Mar I've seen him play tennis. You might know he was open a few times. Okay. And last but not least, any New Year's resolutions? Anything you you're going to you're going to stop or you want to do?
Oh, um, I have a lot of things that, you know, I want to accomplish and a lot of goals and the court and seeing Sugar Pover come alive in different countries as well is a huge goal of mine and um, Australia is next. I'm playing in the Australian Open, so that's a big goal and, yeah, things like that.
