Hi, this is Ricky Henderson. And you're watching, uh, Young Hollywood, right? That's it.
Hi, I'm Ricky Henderson and you're watching Young Hollywood.
What's up, guys? Leslie Robbins here. Young Hollywood has invaded New York. It is MLB's All-Star weekend. I am just a few inches away from home plate at City Field. Home of the New York Mets. But right now it is all about the legends and celebrity softball game. Take me out to the ball game. Take me out to the crowd. It's going to be a lot of fun and there's some cool people here and we're going to we're going to have a great time. James Danton, we're here. You got the look going. How's your game though?
You know, my game is okay. I play a lot of softball. I'm not sure if that makes me a loser or that makes me cool, but, uh, my wife and I play co-ed. We have for like 10 years.
It's not bad. I did it in 2009. We were in St. Louis. I hit and I scored, so, you know.
I've played this probably three years. I think this might be my fourth year and I haven't lost. I think I do all right. Uh, I was actually in the back, uh, taking some batting practice earlier. I still have a little sweat on from it, but, um, I had some fun. It's pretty cool. I got to see the locker room.
No skills at all. I got none. Um, that's not true. Actually, the last time I went home, I practiced with my dad a little bit because I didn't want to be like super embarrassing.
So you are one of the legends here on the field. What kind of tips are you giving the actors and the entertainers that are on the field?
All of the actors and entertainers that are on my team, I give tips to. I just make them have fun, couple them how to grip the bat. I'm really trying to teach them how to, you know, put the bat on the ball. make contact is the first thing. Making contact. And then you decide that you want to run, but you know, that I don't think too many of them got that great speed. So we're going to try to teach them how to walk now to first base, at least.
What about pitching?
Pitching softball, it ain't a J pitch. That's her area. Softball is a little different.
Well, speaking of pitching, pitcher, I'm going to have you teach me how to do this.
The main thing you want to do with a softball, you want to grip it where you have the seams, so you got a good tight. Cause if you hold it off the seams, you could flip out or go either way.
I I motivate people. You're the motivator. Just don't embarrass yourself or or us. You see that motivation I just gave you?
I'm inspired. I just got my heart was warming. Do you like that? I felt really good. After this, I'm going to get some more tips. I'm going to the batting cage. I'm, you know, I have to I have to warm it up again, so.
Do you think that there's maybe a fresh find out there that maybe an athlete could be an actor? John Franco, maybe?
Hmm. Franco. Got the look, he's got the hair. I, you know, I haven't met any of them yet. So I think it's all about when you when you meet people, then you know what they're capable of. Maybe Ricky. I'm I'm going to give it to Ricky. Ricky Henderson, maybe.
I bet Fred Lynn would be a good actor. He seems like a good leading man. He's very, you know, contemplative, smart guy.
It's a different game plan, so, you know, it's a little bit hard for them to go out there and be a baseball player, but they try. They're having a good time out there and they they're doing the right thing and hoping that they don't get hurt.
And I bet Bernie Williams would be a good actor too. He's a musician, he's a very artistic guy.
I mean, I guess so. You know, if they have the passion to do it, you know, the same focus and energy that you put into being an athlete and your athleticism. You have, I guess, the same passion to be, I don't know, a singer, an actress or something. It's possible.
The only thing the Mets and I have in common is Mr. Met's head and myself, we wear the same size head.
