Mad Hatting with Johnny Depp & Crew

Can you re-master a classic? Though it threatens to mess with perfection, here are 3 good reasons why we'll be watching.

1) It's totally rational to reconnect with our youth. Heck, there's no real good reason to grow up at all, you guys. I keep telling you, stop growing up already! Wake up that child within.

2) A new generation wants to see something made just for them. Let's face it, the classics are great, but when Star Wars was reloaded and premiered at theaters, geeks like me had to be there. It was an experience that was created for a new audience, no matter how often we'd already seen the original.

3) We have a man for our times. Johnny Depp seems bent on tinkering with highly beloved characters from Ichabod Crane to Willy Wonka and now his latest in Alice in Wonderland. He's an absolutely delightful sight as the Mad Hatter, from the ghostly white skin and shocking orange hair {complete with bushy old man brows} to the delicate little bandages on his fingers, the actor embodies this new creation as though it is the first time anyone has played the character. There is no doubt the man behind the façade is a talented actor, but he does have a little help. More than a little actually, in his partnership with director Tim Burton, who has been helming Johnny since Edward Scissorhands. The two make a perfect pairing. Add Tim's wife, Helena Bonham Carter, and three's company!

It's all a perfect fit to pull us into a new world, based on a classic. The story may be familiar; it's everything else that's different.
