Hey guys, Carly here with Young Hollywood. I'm about to head into New York Fashion Week right now to chat with star of Scandal, Kerry Washington because a little birdie told me she is a guest judge on Project Runway and I want the scoop.

How's your day going? It's really exciting. It's very early in the morning. There's a lot of excitement, a lot of buzz in the air. Thrilled about this show, thrilled about being here at Fashion Week. See what happens when you give me a microphone, I can't stop talking.

And you shouldn't, you should keep talking. We love it. So what are you expecting from, you know, being a judge on Project Runway? Because you've been one before.

I have, and I'm not, you know, it doesn't come naturally to me because I'm not really a judgmental person, but I do try to give constructive criticism and just be honest about. When I look at a fashion show, I know what things I gravitate toward and what things I don't. And so I just try to be my same instincts around the red carpet to the show.

And we're obsessed with your outfit. Can we like get, get a little shot of this and her shoes and everything. You look so amazing. Who, who makes those?

This is Stella McCartney and the shoes are Casadei.

Oh, love it. And they're, they're easy to walk in.

So far. It's early in the morning but so far they're and they're, uh, I'm holding up okay.

What trends are you obsessed with right now? What do you think is out? What are you really into?

I'm really into capes. They're really big for fall. I'm loving. Derek Lam has a gorgeous cape as does Alexander Wang. Yeah. Um, and we're wearing some on the show and I'm wearing some in my life. Big on the capes. Coach actually has a really beautiful cape as well. Um, so that's my big thing for fall and also always boots. I feel like everyone's always excited about fall because you can pull out your boots. I wear them in the summer too. I like don't even switch to sandals. I love boots. I'll wear them any time I can.

Your bikini and your boots.

Yeah, I'm just like, hey.

I know, I understand. So Oprah's really into Scandal, right?

She is.

I hear she like messages you. My tweets and stuff. Oh my gosh. What is that like?

It's really fun because you know, Oprah's things, like people gravitate. They're they are desperate to know Oprah's things. So it's really an honor to be one of her things. I'm a thing. We're like a thing.

You're one of Oprah's things. It's amazing. She's going to like give you away in the big giveaway.

I can't wait. I can honestly, I might be in the magazine for Christmas with a bow. It's me. Oh. It'd be expensive. I'm expensive.

So you're on the cover of Glamour this month. Which is such a beautiful cover.

I'm really honored. Oh, thank you. I'm so excited to be on the cover. I love Glamour Magazine so much. I feel like it's one of those magazines that's not afraid for women to be both beautiful and brilliant. Yes. Um, so I'm really excited to be on the cover.

I I read a little bit of the article and I saw that, um, you said that you made it a conscious choice to take like your red carpet looks to the next level. Talk to me about that.

I did. I just sort of felt like this fashion world is really such a big part of the marketing section of what we do as actors now and I wanted to be responsible to my career. So I just started studying it and I have as a result, of course, fallen in love with fashion and I I really do think of myself as a student in this area. I try to stay current and do my research and stay aware of what's going on.

It's a good thing you have good friends like Jason Woo.

I know. I know. Being able to like call Tory Burch or Georgina Chapman and be like, so what are the trends? Then I know what to say to people like you because they told me.

Yeah. Well, perfect. Vanity Fair names your character one of the top 10 best dressed characters of 2013. How do you feel like your character Olivia's styles impacted your own or has it?

It's interesting. I mean, I think I brought more of my own sense of fashion to the character. Um, in working with Lynn Paolo when we develop the look for the character, I brought a lot of my own experience of designers and my kind of knowledge about fashion to the table. So I was really excited to be able to bring some of that. Um, And she doesn't, you know, what I love about playing Olivia is that I love one of the things I love about it, is I love her clothes, but it's not how I would dress. So it's really nice when I put on those pantsuits. I do feel like I become her because she dresses so differently from how I dress, but but I still really love her fashion.

Like a physical transformation then. So I have one more question for you. Okay. Um, speaking of Scandal fans, you call them gladiators, right?

We do. Actually, the fans came up with that themselves. But yeah, but we call our fans and ourselves gladiators.

I love it. So you're a gladiator too?

I'm absolute, I'm like a die hard gladiator. You like the mother gladiator. Yeah, I worship our writers. I worship Shonda Rhimes. I am a true gladiator.

Um, what can they look forward to in the next season of Scandal?

Oh my God. You know what? These scripts have been so insane. We're so overwhelmed with the level of intensity on the show. It's really, pretty profound. And you get to learn a lot about Olivia's past. Okay. Um, which is really great and, um, and there's a lot of drama at the office, at both offices. A lot of drama at the White House, a lot of drama at Pope & Associates. What's going on? So much to look forward to.
