Welcome to Young Hollywood. Hey, everyone. Nikki Novak here for Young Hollywood at the Nordstrom in Topanga. No, I swear I am not here to shop. I'm here to interview handbag designer Camila Alves. So, your line Musho. What does the name Musho mean?

It means goddess of the water in an African language. And basically the reason why I chose that name is because I think that every woman has like, you know, that beauty that the ocean has, that the water has. Um and I wanted to relate that to the name of the bags.

This is your luxury line, your couture line.

Yes. Yes. Well, this is a little taste of it. We have uh three different tiers on our line. We have a couture line, we're working on a mid-tier line and we have our B C line, which is very exciting too, which is a combination of a little bit of everything. My favorite one is this one right here. Is the queen of the sea handbag. Try it on and see how comfortable and how much that handbag just hugs your body. fringe girl. But the beauty about this bag is that it has movement with it. So, it actually hugs your body, has movement and it gives you like the sexy feel that every woman wants.

I heard that actually you designed the handbag line with your mom in your garage.

Yes. Yes. Well, we started in the garage. Now we're not in the garage anymore. Like the finish sheen on the leather, the leather doesn't come for us like that. So, all that work and some of the print works that we do on the bags um is a technique that we um kind of created and we don't teach anybody how to do it. So, when we have to do those kind of things, it's still me and my mom.

Now, could I wear this with this dress? Maybe not. Maybe not. The dress is too. This is a little bit more laid back. But what if I just want a smaller?

Does he help you with the designs at all?

You know, we're family. So, of course, we show each other everything that we're doing. So, you know, it's definitely an exchange of opinions and feedbacks for sure.

Is he good with fashion? Cuz some guys when you walk out the door, you say, "Do I look good in this?" And they're like, "Uh sure." They don't have a clue.

No, he's great with it. He's got good taste.

So, we have some quick questions for you about do's and don'ts of handbags. Okay. First one is, can shorter women cuz I have a lot of women who are a little bit shorter and they say I can't wear a big handbag. Do you think that shorter women can pull off a bigger handbag?

That's not necessarily true. You can wear a large handbag, but you don't wanna wear a very wide handbag. So, it actually helps you to give you that impression that you you're actually taller. So, if you're wearing something long that has movement, it'll give you that a fake kind of that impression, you know.

Can you wear a day bag in the evening?

Yes, you can. Depends what kind of handbag is it. You know, for instance, this handbag, the Queen of the Sea right here, 100% you can wear it. Any handbags from the Musho collection you can wear the day one handbags at nighttime, that's for sure. Um it just depends what kind of outfit you have on.

Should you match your shoes to your bag?

It doesn't necessarily have to match your shoe exactly color, but it has to be on the same color in the same tone, in the same family.

Which of your bags would you wear on the red carpet since you do so many red carpet things?

This one here. It's a huge bag. Believe it or not, it's such a special piece that I have worn on the red carpet before.

I heard it's one of a kind or something like that.

It is. It is a one of a kind and we made in honor of the Twin Towers in New York. Um it's a very special very special bag. So, I have worn that one as well. And we are working right now on a collection of clutches. So, it's a small uh party very anyway. I can't talk about it too much it's out, but we're working on it now. It's exciting. It's coming. It's coming. We're very happy with it. So, there's more handbags to come.
