(500) Days of Summer star Zooey Deschanel has already conquered the film and music industries, so what is next in line for her? Zooey recently starred in box office hits Our Idiot Brother and Your Highness, but now she is the main character of a soon-to-be hit new series on FOX called "New Girl".
Zooey typically plays the adorably quirky character that the male lead falls in love with, but not in this case. In the new television series, she is playing the lead role of a girl named Jess who is dumped by her long-term boyfriend and is forced to move in with three guys, crashing their bachelor lifestyle. She is pushed to explore her youth through constantly singing to herself (she makes up her own personal theme song), quirky happenings, and just about the most awkward social situations when meeting men. Her new best buddies help guide her through life as a single woman getting over a major break-up and seeking a new love interest.
Ms Deschanel has said that the quirky Jess is “kind of like a 13-year-old”. It never gets old for us to watch her play these awkward and interesting characters; we can already imagine how funny this character must be set up to be. Zooey even goes on to suggest that, “Jess as a person, and the way her personality is, has some of myself and especially some of my younger self”.
If it wasn’t enough that Zooey Deschanel is the main character in "New Girl", another huge movie star is to be featured as well. Justin Long has recently been booked as the recurring role of Zooey’s love interest. As of right now, Justin is only signed on for three episodes, but that’s good enough for us! He will be playing Jess’s music teacher, Paul, that she quickly develops a huge crush on.
The show’s trailer (below) is laugh-out-loud hilarious, and the plot is said to be absolutely adorable (or, "adorkable", as the promo ads read). "New Girl" has so much buzz circulating around it that the pilot is actually going to be released to the public before its television premiere date.
The show will not air on FOX until September 20, but if you cannot wait until then to see Deschanel, head over to iTunes TODAY to download a free preview of the pilot episiode!!!
