When it comes to text messaging celebrities, Lauren Conrad is my favorite. About eighty percent of her screen time on The Hills is spent on the phone, though that's not an exact figure. It's probably more. She's even the star of a cell phone commercial, where she texts Brody Jenner - as he's sitting across the table from her. Texting is such an overwhelming part of user culture now, there are even clever cartoons mocking the shift from love letters to text messages. In fact, I don't even take calls anymore. Well, except for that one annoying friend (we all have one) who refuses to just send a simple text, forcing you to ignore their calls while you're driving or in a meeting or one of a million other things that happen during the day when you can't answer the phone. Whether you're a paid professional like The Hills gals, an up-and-comer in the business world, catching up with friends or looking for love, there's proper text etiquette to follow. Let's do a quick rundown of the basics, shall we? Don't prattle. There's a character limit for a reason, my people! The longer and more rambling your message is, the more like a loon youll come across on the other end. Get to the point. Try to keep word shortcuts to a minimum. It's clunky to read and can come across unintelligently, especially to business colleagues. If you've mastered getting to the point, above, then you won't need to shorten words. Speaking of minimum, keep a handle on how many messages you send someone. Just like a rambling crazy who sends long winded, five page texts, nothing says potential stalker like 15 texts over the span of half an hour. That goes double if the person on the other end hasn't replied. Chill. Lastly, remember that no matter how amazing you are at the keys, you will, in fact, have to deal with this individual face to face at some point. Be real in your message and you don't disappoint in person. Word.
