The Hulk Just Needs a Hug

It ain't easy being green.I've always thought the Hulk is really just misunderstood. In a way he's like the monster inside us all, except his built up rage can explode with enough force to desolate a city block. That kind of raw power is a deep, dark fantasy - one that does not require you to be an old school comic book geek to appreciate. It does, however, add to the nostalgia. Growing up, we used to play superheroes. When it came to picking a character built for pure power, the biggest, baddest boy on the block was always the Hulk. You had to play as him to be the toughest. Those (invisible) alien robots we always seemed to be fighting never stood a chance!Boys love to crush things and watch stuff blow up, natch, but the most notable trend sweeping superhero movies is the chick factor. It was the female audience that knocked Iron Man into the stratosphere. Oh sure, it would have gone to number one regardless, but a niche market simply cannot turn a movie into a world-wide blockbuster. It must have a wider appeal. Here too, women are getting in on the mix. Every lady friend in the biz that I know who's seen a screening of the movie absolutely loved it. Some were in fact rather surprised at how much they enjoyed the film. This is a very different Hulk from the 2003 version: Entirely re-cast (Edward Norton, Liv Tyler, William Hurt and Tim Ross), a revamped writing team and a new director. It's a recipe for a smashing success.Raaaawr!--Wes
