Robbie Williams. Although you may not recall his last hit, he is a Grammy Award-nominated and 15 time Brit Award-winning" English singer-songwriter, and although many" on this side of the pond aren't savvy to his most recent recordings, he still remains an international icon. He has sold more albums in the United Kingdom than any other British solo artist in history and he currently boasts over 50 million in worldwide sales for a grand total of over 70 million records. Among his many awards "more Brit and ECHO Awards than any other artist in history. His career started as a member of the pop band "Take That" in 1990. He left in 1995 after selling a whopping 25 million records and then began an illustrious solo career. So why isn't he that well known in United States? The fickleness of pop music? Even though he is currently the best selling male artist in the world according to the United World Chart, and the third artist overall behind Madonna and Britney Spears, many cannot recall the names of his biggest hits. The uber-pop star created two #1 U.K. albums: his debut, 1997's Life Thru a Lens, and its follow-up, 1998's I've Been Expecting You. Fans love the songs "Lazy Days" and "Millennium" and of course, -the touching ballad "Angels, but he also managed a Kylie Minogue duet "Kids. In 2002, EMI signed Williams to a multimillion-dollar with the goal of finally breaking him in the United States. According to Rolling Stone magazine, Escapology is a more self-conscious effort to craft a pop-rock blockbuster, but it failed to crack the American market. Nevertheless, Robbie Williams is an outstanding talent just on the verge of touching the American psyche with his wit, humor, and pop sensibility. Young Hollywood calls him one of its own. A true maverick, and an artist just about to make an indelible imprint on the scene of popular music.
