Red Carpet Hair: How-To Techniques

People really watch award season for the pretty pony show -- wardrobe, jewels, makeup and hair. Preparation for these kinds of events can take hours while walking the red carpet takes just minutes. As they say in the South, it's a long run down a short slide. Get the look with 4 red-carpet looks (Penelope Cruz, Zoe Saldana, Emily Blunt & Sandra Bullock) that take just 4 steps to style:

SANDRA

The double nominee got side-swept by Frederic Fekkai celebrity stylist Adir Abergel.

  • Create a part on a diagonal line
  • Apply Fekkai Coiff Perfecteur Anti-Frizz Silkening Crème and blow-dry.
  • Backcomb bottom layers and tuck hair under with pins; then style with a small amount of Fekkai Coiff Nonchalant Piecing and Forming Wax.
  • Select a few strands to pull loosely and finish with Fekkai Coiff Sheer Hold Hairspray.

PENELOPE

The "˜Nine' star was styled by Oribe (who I met last September at a special in-store demo), natch, he used his own signature products.

  • Apply Gel Serum and spray with Imperméable anti-humidity spray.
  • Curl and set with hot rollers.
  • Create loose curls by brushing into place; spray with Superfine Hair Spray.
  • Place bobby pin on one side and spray to set.

ZOE

TRESemme celebrity stylist Mara Rosza styled the Avatar star using their products.

Rub 24 Hour Body Foaming Mousse through hair, part and blow dry with a round brush.
Mist 24 Hour Body Finishing Spray over hair and curl into 1-inch sections; pin and set for 10 minutes.
Softly brush out, apply Anti-Frizz Secret Smoothing Crème.
Pull one side behind the ear and spray to set.

EMILY

Celeb stylist Laini Reeves is said to have freshly cut "˜The Young Victoria' star's hair just for the red carpet, styling with Living Proof products.

  • Begin by applying No Frizz Wave Shaping Cream to damp hair.
  • Add extra texture with Living Proof Full.
  • Create pin curls by wrapping half-inch pieces of hair around fingers and then pinning them to the top of the head, alternating the twisting motion clockwise and counter-clockwise to add dimension.
  • Let hair dry naturally; use a barrel curling iron to accent random locks, smoothing the ends with a flatiron to straighten the bottom inch of each curl.
