Gym Class Heros have been in the indie circuit for years and after a chance a friend took on the band, the destiny of this underground hit band would forever be changed. Gym Class Heros formed in 1999, two years after MC Travis Schleprok McCoy, and drummer Matt McGinley met in gym class yes, gym class. The two had a passion for music and dreamed of forming a band. They had the same musical aspirations and decided to collaborate and form a band. Everyone knows that one of the most important and challenging aspect of forming a band is the band's name. What better name than, Gym Class Heros? After all, they did meet in gym class. After a few grueling years of writing countless song after song, and of course playing at the standard birthday party or back yard bbq, Gym Class Heros was given an opportunity that would soon change their lives forever. Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy invited the band to one of his shows; Pete Wentz, one of the Fall Out Boy band members really liked what he saw and immediately singed the boys to his record label, Decaydance Records. Gym Class Heros then went on to tour on the Warped Tour with many other highly acclaimed bands, and really earned respect and credibility in the rock/hip hop world. They also opened for Gwen Stefani on her Sweet Escape Tour during the summer of 2007. The band really knew they hit stardom when their single Cupid's Chokehold,: from their debut album, The Papercut Chronicles hit top 5 on the Billboard Hot 100. Gym Class Heros is nominated this year for the highly coveted Best New Artist, and Best New Group at MTV's Video Music Awards this year to be held in Las Vegas on September 9, 2007.
