He began as an ice cream man, selling his product to the kids on the East Side of Motor City, long before the advent of rap music.Dr. Geek sold ice cream using his unique rhyme scheme " perfected when he was the unofficial cheerleader at Kettering High School's sporting events -- for an incredible 18 years in Detroit before his lyrical prowess eventually led him to California.
In California Dr. Geek met up with Rhoda Robinson and became an active board member of an organization called BTTAF,ù or Brotherhood Through The Arts Foundation. He eventually wrote and performed with that group in a play entitled, We Are Oneù with a diversified cast of young people. Soon, the BluBlocker sunglasses company flew Dr. Geek to New York where he and Rhoda would team up again to write The Friendship Train.ùIn fact, it was a BluBlocker Sunglasses infomercial that gave Dr. Geek his greatest visibility. In the famous commercial, Dr. Geek made up a rhyme unrehearsed and helped the company sell over 20 million pairs of the BluBlocker sunglasses.Dr. Geek has appeared on numerous sporting news programs and television shows including CNN, BET, Fox Sport News, among many others. He even appeared on The Tonight Show.The Los Angeles City Council members honored Dr. Geek with a plaque for his positive raps in 1996. The County of Los Angeles also honored him as the 1998 Poet Laureate for his ongoing work with the foster kids of Los Angeles County.>
