Dave Navarro was born in Santa Monica California to James Raul Navarro and Constance Colleen Hopkins. He started playing piano at the tender age of 6, yet found the guitar much more intriguing. When he was 11, his father bought him his first guitar at a garage sale and he distinctly remembers the very day that he heard Jimi Hendrix's Voodoo Child over a PA system at a skate park and recalls how that very moment he knew his life would never be the same.It was this very moment that sparked his imagination and marked the beginning of his desire to create the very music we know and love.He formed his first band in Junior High and named it South Dakota Railroad. In high school, he formed the band Dizaztre with Stephen Perkins on the drums and Rico Quevedo on the bass, but his notoriety came after joining the band Jane's Addiction in 1986.Jane's Addiction featured his old time childhood buddies, Perry Farrel and Eric Avery. Their friendship was tested, which eventually led to the demise of Jane's Addiction, but not before their name became synonymous with alternative rock. Farrell, however decided that the band wouldn't split without a proper and memorable farewell, therefore he created Lollapalooza as their good-bye card.Dave didn't give up that easily and it wasn't long before Eric Avery and Dave formed yet another band, Deconstruction with Michael Murphy on drums. They released one self-titled album in 1994, yet the album didn't achieve cult status like Jane's Addiction, which eventually led to yet another break-up.In 1993, he joined the Red Hot Chili Peppers "his live debut with them being Woodstock. They released their studio album, One Hot Minute which sold a lot of copies, but proved to be lackluster. He reunited with Jane's Addiction for their Jane's Relapse tour and also collaborated with Alanis Morissette, Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails and Michelle Branch artistically, throughout his career. In 2006, he focused his energies on his new band, The Panic Channel which consists of Stephen Perkins and Chris Chaney of Jane's Addiction, and lead singer Steve Isaacs. In addition he also released Southland Tales. One thing that stands out about Dave is the fact that he continues to stay focused on what he wants to write and what he wants to say, which is refreshing to see that he is honoring his artistic integrity. It is as if he has denied any category or stereotype and has continued to challenge himself. He has tried has hand at acting, hosting and you can even read some of his articles that have been published Details, Nylon and US Weekly. As of late, you can see him on the internet on his own hour long, weekly show Spread Entertainment . We at Young Hollywood concur with Dave's philosophy, stay true to your artistic nature and never give up on attaining your creative vision.
