"21 Jump Street" gets a revival, comedy style!
The 1980s dramatic television series is returning, but this time it’s on the big screen and has a totally different tone. Jonah Hill writes, Phil Lord and Chris Miller direct.
The basic premise of the revival is the same -- young-looking cops go undercover to fight crime in high schools. This time around, the undercover program is specifically restored to put a teen drug bust into action. Those naughty popular kids are always up to no good! Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum star as the undercover cops, and, naturally, the characters' subpar professional skills get them into some trouble. “New Girl” star Jake Johnson, "The Office" cutie Ellie Kemper, and James Franco's little bro Dave also appear in the film.
The movie’s comedy ingredients include high school keg parties, physical humor with some “ouch” moments, endearing cluelessness of our main characters Schmidt (Hill) and Jenko (Tatum), and, of course, some well-landed one-liners by Jonah Hill. Sounds pretty good! And don’t worry, original fans -- '80s cast member Johnny Depp makes a cameo. There are minimal details at the moment about how large of a role he has, but he’s probably just as hot.
