Cell Obsessed Celebs: When to Text vs. Talk

The actress is one of many text obsessed celebs who openly admit they let their fingers do the talking!

Recently a non-technical person asked me why people text when they can "just pick up the damn phone and have a conversation."

Sending a typed message IS a conversation, like duh. Whether in a rush or lacking privacy, texting vs. talking has many advantages.

Here's why the stars type it out:

* Vocal rest: If you're sick or otherwise orally occupied (like eating, dirty perv) you can still communicate. Celine Dion famously refuses to speak during days she's performing.

* Ability to edit: When the words leave your mouth, you can't take it back. If you change your mind after you type, you can edit or delete the message.

* Speed: Get the point across faster thanks to a character limit.

* Emotion: An ideal way to hide your emotions, good or bad.

* Convenience:  Send whenever you want, reply at your leisure.

* Memory:  Texts can be saved and re-read to refresh the previous conversation.

* Efficient: More cost-efficient than phone calls.

* Avoids confrontation: No need to reply if you don't feel like arguing.

* Silence is golden: As a silent act of communication, it stays between the sender and the recipient -- rather than everybody within earshot.

* Privacy: You have the ability to delete all evidence that anything ever happened (at least on your end).
