Give me the music! Working out can take some motivation, and music is one of the most inspiring ways to get in the groove on a regular basis -- especially now that we’re in the holiday season and surrounded by delicious treats and holiday refreshments! To keep up with your workouts over the holiday season, it helps to have a play list (or a few) ready to go on your iPod. Be sure to include some up-tempo songs you can run to, as well as some lower BPM songs for cool downs and stretches. Here are some of the best songs of 2011 to get your body moving and prepare for the new year!
“You Make Me Feel” (Cobra Starship featuring Sabi) -- A super upbeat dance/pop record to get you motivated right from the start.
“Cheers (Drink to That)” (Rihanna) -- A weekend celebration song to keep you open to what you have to look forward to, plus it includes a familiar sample from an old Avril Lavigne favorite.
“Good Feeling” (Flo Rida) -- Classified as “electro hop” and “hip house”, a very popular way to blend hip hop music with an up-tempo dance track. It samples an Avicii song which sampled an Etta James song; deep roots!
“No Church in the Wild”- (Jay-Z and Kanye West) -- From their Watch the Throne album, it also features Frank Ocean. It’s a base-heavy thought-provoker to keep you in the moment.
“Sexy and I Know It” (LMFAO) -- Always a ridiculously good time. This electro song with catchy party lyrics is perfect for running on the treadmill. Plus “I’m sexy and I know it” is not a terrible mantra.
“I Follow Rivers” (Lykke Li) -- An awesome track that gets remixed a lot. The chorus just begs for some bouncing around to go along with your sing-along.
“I Wanna Go” (Britney Spears) -- This is one of the more popular ultra-pop hits this year for a Brit-Brit craving. There’s a physical momentum to a pop track!
“Sweat” (Snoop Dogg and David Guetta) -- Another catchy hip hop/dance-fusion song. Plus you should be sweating while you work out, friendly reminder.
“Teenage Dream” (Katy Perry) -- Has such an uplifting and youthful sound. Day-dreamy! Crushes! Woo hoo!
“How to Love” (Lil Wayne) -- This slower tempo ballad is a perfect cool down and/or stretch song. There’s an acoustic side to him we don’t get to see as much. A little bit of sentiment never hurt anyone.
