Paul McCartney to Be Honored on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (Finally!)
Written by Samantha Blum
Tuesday, 07 February 2012

To everyone’s surprise, Paul McCartney hasn’t received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame yet -- can you believe it?!

We certainly can’t, but finally, the legendary icon will be given a spot on this Thursday, February 9, right next to fellow Beatles Ringo Starr, George Harrison, and John Lennon. Their stars are all placed next to each other in front of the one and only historic Capitol Records building (although the group Beatles star is elsewhere).

McCartney’s ceremony has been trying to be scheduled for several years, so don’t think that he has been left out on purpose! Ana Martinez, Vice President of Media Relations in charge of all of the Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremonies, has been working for years to finally immortalize McCartney’s name alongside the rest of the Beatles.

His star is the 2,460th star at the Capitol Records tower, and guests like Eric Clapton and Stevie Wonder are said to be attending McCartney’s ceremony, as Hollywood Chamber of Commerce President and CEO, Leron Gubler, emcees the event.

It’s about time this musical icon is recognized and honored! Congratulations, Paul!

New on YHN: More From Sundance, with Aziz Ansari, Parker Posey, and Eric Mabius
Written by Katie Marzullo
Tuesday, 07 February 2012

Oh, you didn’t think we were DONE with our Sundance coverage, did you? I told y’all we were busy up in Park City!

Two new videos today, the first featuring a rather peckish Aziz Ansari, taking full advantage of all the culinary goodies being offered at the film fest. Can you blame him really? The “Parks and Rec” funnyman is in town to hit the stage for a stand-up show with Drake, which may or may not sit well with Kanye... No fear, though, as Aziz is rap diplomat and has no intentions of starting a feud! He just wants to look good and get fed. C’est la vie!

Next up, we hit the Nintendo 3DS lounge where we encounter the Queen of Sundance herself, Parker Posey! She and her co-star Eric Mabius are in the joint to promote their film Price Check, which is just yet another notch on Parker’s Indie Cred belt. And this chick is hardcore, OG indie, if her attitude toward the festival’s evolution and the inclusion of swag is any indication... sentiments that Eric seems to share. Do they have a point? Has Sundance been buried beneath too much hype and free stuff? Food for thought... Mmmm, free food!!!

Fashion Wisdom from Simon Doonan
Written by Laura Carlson
Tuesday, 07 February 2012

Simon Doonan, the Barney’s New York Creative Ambassador-at-Large, was met with an over-the-top fashion-friendly turnout in Washington, DC, last week for his fifth book, Gay Men Don’t Get Fat. The top floor Altitude ballroom at the W Hotel was filled with a well-heeled crowd looking for a meet-and-greet with Doonan, known for his many VH1 guest spots ("I Love the '70s", "I Love the '80s", "I Love the '90s") as well as "Gossip Girl". The Slate scribe has been penning a column on everything from spray tans to going braless in the office since 2010, hoping to give DC a refresher course on style scenarios. I caught up with Doonan to ask him where he gets inspiration in L.A., whose taking fashion risks in young Hollywood, and whom he thinks will be most fabulous on Oscar Night.

Q: You started your career as a window dresser. If you had an opportunity to window dress a great store in Los Angeles, where do you think you would draw inspiration?
A: I used to dress the windows at Maxfield in L.A. There is no shortage of inspiration. I used to find fabulous props in the junkyards in East L.A

Q: With the Oscars right around the corner, what are your predictions on what young Hollywood might be wearing on the red carpet?
A: Haider Ackerman, Lanvin, Chanel.... names, names, names!

Q: There are a lot of young starlets making a serious impression with their fashion choices, and some without a stylist in sight. Who are your favorite young actresses that are paving the way with their fashion sense?
A: It's all about Rooney Mara this season. And of course Tilda Swinton... But then it's always been about Tilda

Q: I've read that you think A-listers often play it too safe now on the red carpet. Which young actors (male or female) do you think take the most risk?
A: The actors never take risks. The only ones who take risks are musicians... Nicki Minaj! Bonjour!

Q: Which young actor's closet would you love to re-do? (you may choose more than one)
A: Most of the young dudes are overdoing the grunge situation. It's time to play dress-up again and stop trying to look as if you live in a trailer. I refuse to name names.

Q: Which young starlet do you feel always dressed to impress, even during the most mundane of activities; i.e. going to the grocery store?
A: Kelly Osborne (is she a starlet?) always looks quirky and eccentric. Me likey.

Q: Can you give us a glimmer into what one can learn from your new book Gay Men Don't Get Fat?
A: It's a humor book. The advice is mostly tongue-in-cheek. We all need a good laugh. Joan Rivers told me she split her Spanx while reading it. I have a theory that laughter burns calories. I'm encouraging people to weigh themselves before reading it, and then after.

Gay Men Don't Get Fat is currently available for purchase.

New on YHN: QUIET ON THE SET Featuring "The Voice" Champ Javier Colon!
Written by Katie Marzullo
Tuesday, 07 February 2012

If you haven’t been watching “The Voice”, might I humbly suggest you get on that immediately.

If you need further incentive, there’s Javier Colon, the winner of Season One of “The Voice” and for very good reason. When he first took the stage for his audition last year, armed with a guitar and some mean pipes, he belted out a version of Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time” that would make your bones quiver. A few weeks later, the Team Levine contestant was crowned champion.

Now, a new season of “The Voice” is in full swing, and Javier is busy parlaying his victory into that inevitable music career. His debut single, “As Long As We Got Love”, features YH fave Natasha Bedingfield, and YHN was on the set for the music video shoot!

Yeah, it was a bummer that Javier was feeling a bit under the weather during the interview, but the man really has no complaints! Life is good!

Check out today’s episode of QUIET ON THE SET with Javier Colon below!

Gird Your Web Sacs – First Official Trailer for ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ is Here!
Written by Katie Marzullo
Tuesday, 07 February 2012

From the first day it was announced, we’ve been closely following the progress of this superhero reboot (directed, appropriately, by a guy named Mark Webb); we’ve eaten up every teaser photo and every bit of info about the plot and cast...

And today, we are feasting upon the first official trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man!

Watching the trailer, the thought that immediately springs to my mind is, “The only thing separating this from a Batman movie is a raging case of arachnophobia.” Clearly, the filmmakers are taking a much grittier, darker approach to the story, which seems to be la mode typique these days when it comes to superhero films. Thank goodness, then, for the inclusion of the wonderful Emma Stone, who is sure to check in with us from time to time to make sure we’re not completely sucked into the Black Hole...

The second thought to spring into my mind is, “Holy crap, Denis Leary!!!” Nobody told me he was going to be in this thing too, as Gwen Stacy’s cop father. And then—OMG, Rhys Ifans!!! You Potterheads know him as Xenophilius Lovegood, but now he’s getting his evil on as “The Lizard” (a bastardization of the Green Goblin, I’m guessing). Then there’s Martin Sheen and Sally Field as Peter Parker’s kindly Uncle Ben and Aunt May... And, of course, the yummy Andrew Garfield as the titular teenage weenie-turned-crimefighting web slinger who manages to throw in a few wisecracks now and again to break up the teen angst.

So, for cast alone, I am totally sold! I don’t think there’s anything new here plot-wise, and the effects and action sequences look so-so. But there’s a lot of great talent involved, which is good enough for me.

What do YOU guys think of the new Amazing Spider-Man trailer? Check it out below!

The Amazing Spider-Man hits theatres on July 3.

Melissa McCarthy Developing Two New Sitcoms for CBS
Written by Samantha Blum
Monday, 06 February 2012

Bridesmaids star, “Mike & Molly” Emmy winner, and Oscar nominee Melissa McCarthy has been extremely busy writing a new sitcom with her husband and Bridesmaids co-star (as Air Marshall Jon), Ben Falcone.

The sitcom has been bought by CBS and will focus on a 40-year-old woman who is undergoing a midlife crisis, to say the least. In addition to that show, McCarthy is also writing another show for CBS with a similar plotline!

The second show for the network is also co-written with her husband and "Mad TV"’s Larry Dorf, about a 37-year old man, David Gell, who isn’t in a midlife crisis but is still living at home with his parents.

There has not been a casting call for the roles of David or his parents yet, but with McCarthy in charge, and Falcone and Dorf as producers, we know it is bound to be a hilarious show!

Because of McCarthy’s unforgettable performance in Bridesmaids and her outstanding recent appearance on “Saturday Night Live”, she has been asked to be part of, and feature in, a handful of other film projects. These projects include Identity Thief with Jason Bateman; an untitled film with Bridesmaids writer Annie Mulolo, about a woman who tries to steal the Stanley Cup; and a spin off of Knocked Up, titled This is Forty.

OK Go's Latest Music Video: Here It Goes Again!
Written by Kate Ferguson
Monday, 06 February 2012

OK Go’s new video for the song “Needing/Getting”, which was teased yesterday during the Super Bowl, is officially out, and as usual they’re making quite an impression. They have a history of using ordinary objects in extraordinary circumstances to elevate their presentation; who could forget the choreographed treadmill video for “Here it Goes Again”? Those were some slick moves. Grammy-winning ones, in fact.

The most recent video was made is partnership with Chevrolet, so naturally they’re driving one throughout their desert music-making excursion. Here’s the setup: the band members are in the Chevy Sonic, playing instruments and singing, while they drive the car through an obstacle course of sorts which is lined by instruments. The car has retractable arms attached to it that become catalysts for playing the 1,000 (+) instruments laid out in the desert waiting for them. You’ve got to see it to believe it.

The video preparation took four months and included things like fixing each piano in only one octave so that no matter which keys the arms hit they would play the right tune. Besides pianos, the setup also included barrels, cups, metal bowls, guitars, etc., and obviously it all had to be lined up just right. I was wondering what they did with all those guitars during clean up, until I visited their Website and read that you can win one by creating the ultimate road trip playlist. Sure, I’ll learn to play on an electric Gretsch guitar. Why not? From the Website, you can also purchase a T-shirt commemorating the video, which has a helmeted head screen-printed on the front.

Lead singer Damian Kulash took stunt driving lessons to prepare for the video, so there were actually no stand-ins during the four days of shooting. All four band members were wearing helmets, as well as color-coordinated track suits. Think Power Rangers-turned-musicians. I think one of my favorite parts is when they were driving backwards for a period of time just singing a capella. Not your average setup!

You need to check out "Needing/Getting", so get a load of it below:

Mia Wasikowska Sits Among the Starlets
Written by Symonne Torpy
Monday, 06 February 2012

The perfect image of new young Hollywood, Mia Wasikowska is bright-eyed and beautiful. The Australian actress is amongst a cast of 11 talented women, pinned as Hollywood's leading ladies for 2012, that will appear in the March issue of Vanity Fair magazine.

Born in the city of Canberra, Wasikowska found worldwide acclaim playing the lead opposite Michael Fassbender in the 2011 film Jane Eyre. The 22-year-old attracted high praise for the role from Meryl Streep, who used her Golden Globe acceptance speech to remind us of Wasikowska's brilliant performance.

Mia is joined for the magazine spread by the likes of Rooney Mara (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo), Jennifer Lawrence (X-Men: First Class), and Jessica Chastain. The art deco shoot by photographer Mario Testino has all 11 leading ladies appear as '20s sirens.

If her ability to time travel through film and photo stage sets is anything to go by, Mia is one to watch this year. Catch her in the HBO series, "In Treatment", as well as our YH Studio interview with the starlet, and indulge in the continued metamorphosis.
