Yara Shahidi heading to Harvard

Actress Yara Shahidi will be heading to Massachusetts next year (18) after accepting an offer to attend the prestigious Harvard University.

The Black-ish star had the luxury of choosing where she wanted to study after receiving acceptance letters from every school she applied for, and she has since decided to continue her education at the Ivy League institution in Cambridge.

Yara, whose recommendation letters included one from former First Lady Michelle Obama, shared the news with fans on Instagram by posting a shot of herself posing in a Harvard University sweatshirt.

"The paradox of education is precisely this - that as one begins to become conscious one begins to examine the society in which he is being educated," she wrote, quoting famed novelist James Baldwin.

She added, "#CrimsonPride", a nod to the school's official color.

Yara will have plenty of time to prepare for college as she is deferring for a year and will enroll in the autumn of 2018 - the same time Obama's eldest daughter Malia will also begin her studies at Harvard.

In the meantime, Yara will keep busy with her acting career, after landing a Black-ish spin-off series, focusing on her character's university life.

The 17-year-old portrays Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross' onscreen daughter, Zoey, on the hit sitcom, and College-ish, from franchise creator Kenya Barris, will follow the teen as she adjusts to life away from home.

The series is set to premiere on the Freeform network next year (18).
