Wonder Woman producer has high hopes for potential sequel

Wonder Woman producer Charles Roven is hopeful that plans for a sequel will soon be in the pipeline.

Gal Gadot is currently lighting up cinema screens as the DC Comics female hero, a role made famous by Lynda Carter in ‘70s TV show Wonder Woman.

And while the film has received widespread praise, Roven admits talks of a second installment have yet to kick off.

“Nothing has been written,” he told Cinema Blend. “We really want to focus on this movie, and I think the result of this movie is going to really define what the future of Wonder Woman is in the movies, other than the fact that you know that she's in Justice League. And we're really happy about that! But I think we're all pretty pleased with the film, and you guys have been great, giving us amazingly wonderful positive feedback. We hope it continues on!"

Wonder Woman, which is directed by Patty Jenkins and also stars Chris Pine and Robin Wright, has faced some backlash though, with Lebanese officials banning the movie because lead actress Gadot is an Israeli citizen. The two countries have long been engaged in conflict, and in the wake of the troubles, members of the Ministry of Economy have decided to punish cinemagoers by pulling the movie.

Gadot can next be seen as Wonder Woman in Justice League, starring alongside her fellow DC castmates Henry Cavill, who portrays Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, and Jason Momoa’s Aquaman in the film, slated for a November (17) release.

Cavill’s 2013 movie Man of Steel was the first in the rebooted franchise, after which he went on to star in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. A new Superman project has also been announced.
