Will Smith is reportedly eyeing up a starring role in high-concept action thriller Gemini Man.

The 48-year-old actor and rapper is in talks to appear in the movie, which tells the story of an ageing assassin who finds himself in a battle within his own clone, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Academy Award-winning filmmaker Ang Lee is also in negotiations to direct the project, which is being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and executive produced by Don Murphy.

The Gemini Man concept has been floating around at Disney since 1997, but executives struggled to execute the idea with existing visual effects technology. However, the project has recently been picked up again by David Ellison’s Skydance Media, with it thought that the visual effects to show the lead character at two different ages is now possible.

However, the publication asserted that a deal with Smith is not yet confirmed, as he is also discussing taking on the role of voicing the Genie in Disney's upcoming live-action version of Aladdin.

Smith, who has just been announced as a member of the upcoming Cannes Film Festival jury, will next been seen on screen playing Scott Ward in David Ayer's fantasy film Bright, which is set to debut on Netflix later in the year (17).
