Stephen Baldwin helps woman who suffers a seizure
Actor Stephen Baldwin has been hailed a hero after coming to the aid of a woman who suffered a seizure in a New York bar.
The Usual Suspects star was dining at the Peninsula Hotel on Thursday evening (09Aug12) when he spotted the woman in distress and rushed to help her.
Baldwin tells the New York Daily News, "All of a sudden every head
turned because there was this loud bang. It was this girl, fallen
on the floor."
The woman started having convulsions and was foaming at the
mouth.
The actor adds, "It was pretty violent."
Baldwin, who realised the woman was suffering an epileptic fit,
kneeled down beside her, held her hand and "said a few prayers".
The born-again Christian adds, "I wanted to make sure the young
lady was OK and her breathing wasn’t restricted."
According to the actor, the seizure lasted more than three minutes
before the woman came to.
Baldwin says, "She started going, ‘Where am I? What happened?' I
asked, 'Do you have epilepsy?' and she said, 'Yes'. Then she
started crying."
After the woman was attended to by a nurse, he spoke with her
mother on the phone to assure her that her daughter was OK.
He adds, "The mom starting asking questions about the seizure.
There are characteristics of the seizure that she has to report
back to her doctor... When it was over, I never got her name and
they never asked for mine. I’m just glad she was OK."
Ironically, the day had started in terrible fashion for the hotel -
a man jumped to his death from the 22nd storey of the
Peninsula.
