Ryan Phillippe to launch men's fitness app

Actor Ryan Phillippe is preparing to release an app aimed to help middle-aged men stay young and fit.

The Cruel Intentions star, who received his black belt in Korean martial arts discipline taekwondo when he was just 11 years old, is deeply dedicated to exercise and has not strayed from maintaining a regular fitness routine for decades.

“Whether I’m doing a movie or TV show or not, I’ve worked out five days a week, 1 1⁄2 hours a day, for the past 20 years,” he tells the June (17) issue of Men's Fitness magazine. “And I always get asked: How do you look so young? How do you stay in shape? What (supplements) do you take? What do you eat?”

And this persistent line of questioning prompted the 42-year-old hunk to start working with software engineers two years ago (15) on a digital fitness program called Become.

“I and others like me have worked with some of the best trainers, nutritionists, and doctors,” Phillippe explains. “We’re going to take all that work away for our users—men over 40 who want to stay fit and look young. The Become app will cut through and simplify.”

Ryan trained extensively in Muay Thai kickboxing for his role as a sniper in USA Network television drama Shooter, but the star confesses he almost passed on the gig thanks to his penchant for staying home in Los Angeles to be near his kids.

“I can’t tell you the number of jobs I’ve turned down because I didn’t want to go over to Bulgaria or Australia for three months,” he shares. “I turned down Shooter a couple of times because they wanted to make it in Vancouver, and I’m like, ‘I’m not going away.’ So they eventually agreed to shoot it right outside of L.A.”

Ryan and his ex-wife Reese Witherspoon are parents to 17-year-old daughter Ava and 13-year-old son Deacon. He is also father to daughter Kailani, five, who he shares with his model ex-girlfriend Alexis Knapp.
