Prince William wants to be a hands-on father
British royal Prince William is adamant he will be a hands-on father to his baby son.
The Duke of Cambridge became a first-time dad last month (Jul13) when his wife Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to a boy named George.
William has now spoken out about his plans for parenthood, and
admits he wants to break with tradition by making sure he is
changing nappies himself.
He tells CNN, "If I can do it myself, I'll do it myself. I'm as
independent as I want to be. I don't like fuss."
William adds of Prince George, "He's a little bit of a rascal, I'll
put it that way, so he either reminds me of my brother (Prince
Harry) or me when I was younger, I'm not sure... (He is) growing
quite quickly actually... And he doesn't want to go to sleep that
much, which is a little bit of a problem... She's (Catherine is)
doing a fantastic job. For me, Catherine, and now little George are
my priorities. I think the last few weeks for me have been just a
very different emotional experience. Something I never thought I
would feel myself... a lot of things affect me differently
now."
The prince also reveals he was relieved his baby boy was so calm
during a photocall for the world's press outside the hospital in
the hours after his birth, adding, "I was on such a high about
George, and so was Catherine. We were anxious to show him off. As
any new parent knows, you're only too happy to show off your new
child... It's not somewhere I enjoy being (in front of the
cameras), but I know the position I'm in (and) it's nice people
wanted to see George. I'm just glad he wasn't screaming his head
off the whole way through."
The interview is part of a new CNN TV special titled Prince
William's Passion: New Father, New Hope, which is due to air next
month (Sep13).
