Prince told to pay $4 million to fragrance firm

Pop superstar Prince has been ordered to pay almost $4 million to perfume bosses who accused the singer of failing to promote a scent named after his album 3121.

Perfume and Cosmetics Inc. executives sued the Purple Rain icon for breach of contract in 2008, claiming he refused to market the fragrance after it was launched in July 2007.

Court referee Louis Crespo has awarded $3.95 million in damages to the firm following a four-day inquest in Manhattan, New York.

Another judge will have to confirm the suggested amount next week (begs05Sep11), but Prince's lawyer tells the New York Law Journal the singer will oppose the recommendation.
