Michael Jackson's teenage daughter accepted her debut movie role in an environmental-themed film in a bid to "take on her dad's legacy", according to the project's producer.

Paris Jackson, 13, has signed up to star in a new fantasy film called Lundon's Bridge and The Three Keys, which is a mix of live action and animated adventure in the ocean.

Half of the profits from the movie and book versions of the story will be donated to schools and producer Stephen Sobisky reveals the teen is keen to start work.

He tells People.com, "She wants to be an actress. She wants to take on her dad's legacy and do something good for the world and our product does that.

"She is a sweet, smart girl. Our goal is to make sure she has a fun time doing something that keeps her busy. We're a family-driven group. For me, Paris is going to be like one of my children and I'm going to protect (her) just like I do my other three kids. We want her to enjoy this experience."

Filming on the movie begins in January (12).
