One Direction performed their last public show in the U.S. before their indefinite break next year (16) with a bittersweet set at the Jingle Ball in Los Angeles on Friday (04Dec15).

The pop stars, who are due to go on hiatus in March (16), were part of the star-studded line-up for the concert at the Staples Center, organized by Los Angeles radio station KIIS FM.

Editors at Billboard.com report the boyband acknowledged the gig will be their last in the country for some time, however, they are still due to record a set for a TV special due to air on New Year's Eve (31Dec15).

Other artists who took to the stage on Friday included Ellie Goulding, Meghan Trainor and Australian rockers 5 Seconds of Summer, who opened the show.

Actress/singer Hailee Steinfeld was another highlight of the night, while Fifth Harmony's Camila Cabello took to the stage to perform a surprise duet with Shawn Mendes.

The Weeknd drove the crowd wild with his hits Can't Feel My Face and In The Night, before Selena Gomez took to the stage for her headline performance.
