Miley Cyrus "digs deep in her soul" on her new album, her father Billy Ray Cyrus has revealed.

The 24-year-old singer is gearing up to release Malibu, the first song from her long-awaited record, on 11 May (17). While Miley said previously that the new offering will be vastly different to her former releases, her country singer dad hinted that it also portrays a more vulnerable side of his superstar daughter.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight at the MTV Movie & TV Awards on Sunday night (07May17), Billy said of Miley's new album: "I think she just kind of found herself at a spot where it was a good time to lean into her roots and just enjoy the music process, and dig deep in her soul. She's got a great album coming out."

Miley's younger sister Noah is following in her sibling's musical footsteps, and performed at the awards ceremony on Sunday. When it comes to her inspirations, Noah admires Miley for always sticking to her guns in terms of the direction she wanted to go in.

"Miley has been working on music for a while," Noah added. "She's always been who she wants to be, you know. She's doin' it!"

Miley wasn't present to watch Noah perform her new single Stay Together at Los Angeles' Shrine Auditorium, but Billy was. And seeing his 17-year-old daughter take to the stage was a proud moment for the 55-year-old music veteran.

"To be here, with Noah, seeing her - she's really hitting full stride as an artist, a singer, songwriter, musician," Billy gushed. "She's found her calling and I'm just happy to be here and watch that performance. I still just love great music, and this one happens to be my daughter!"
