Michael Jackson refused rehab
Michael Jackson's family attempted to save the star from his drug problems on at least 10 occasions but the star refused to go to rehab, according to his brother Randy.
The pop superstar's younger sibling taped a video testimony which was played at the trial in Los Angeles on Friday (09Aug13) as the Jacksons battle concert promoters AEG Live over the singer's 2009 death.
In his testimony, which is part of a wrongful death lawsuit, Randy
detailed a terrifying incident in 2005 when the King of Pop
collapsed at a house in Beverly Hills, California after overdosing
on prescription drugs.
Jackson claims he confiscated all the medication he could find
following the incident.
He went on to insist the family had attempted to stage numerous
interventions in a bid to get the star help, including four at his
house in Santa Barbara, California, as many as three while he was
staying at a hotel in New York, at his home in Las Vegas, and a
final attempt in California just months before his death.
Randy claimed during one attempt at his brother's Neverland ranch,
the family hired specialist doctors to help, adding, "I told him I
was taking him to rehab. He said he's not going... I wasn't afraid
to say no to him. So he would really... like, get physical with
me... But he's like 90 pounds, so it wouldn't do much."
He also revealed his mother Katherine, who is suing AEG along with
Michael's three children, refused to admit the superstar was an
addict, adding, "She didn't want to believe it."
In the lawsuit, the family claims AEG bosses should be held
accountable for hiring the King of Pop's doctor, Conrad Murray, who
has been convicted of inadvertently killing the star by giving him
an overdose of a surgical anesthetic.
