Margot Robbie has been named as the frontrunner to bring the iconic Barbie doll to life in a new movie.
The Wolf of Wall Street star is touted as film bosses' first choice to play the beloved blonde toy in a new live action movie, with stars such as Amy Adams and Sandra Bullock named as potential candidates to play Barbie's sidekick Maggie.
The revelation was made in a leaked email written by Doug Belgrad, the president of Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group, who declared, "As far as who would play Barbie probably an ingenue. I like Margot Robbie, for instance. Or possibly a discovery," while producer Laurie MacDonald also named Robbie as her first choice in an email to former Sony boss Amy Pascal, writing, "She is Barbie come to life - she'd be great."
Hannah Minghella, co-president of production at Sony's Columbia Pictures division, appeared to suggest Robbie is onboard for the project, adding, "(We) pitched Margot the idea for Barbie and she loved it! She's free in October once she wraps Tarzan."
The emails, which were leaked by hackers who infiltrated the Sony Pictures database last year (14), were made public last week (ends19Apr15) when they were published on the WikiLeaks website.
