M.I.A.: 'I never apologised to Diplo for interview criticism'

Hip-hop star M.I.A. has taken another swipe at her ex-boyfriend Diplo, accusing the DJ/producer of misinterpreting her words after alleging she apologised for criticisms made in a candid Rolling Stone interview last month (Mar15).

The Paper Planes hitmaker, real name Mathangi Arulpragasam, dated Diplo for five years until 2008 and in the recent magazine chat, she blasted her ex for spoiling her big break by constantly putting her down.

She said, "When I got signed by Interscope, he literally smashed my hotel room and broke all the furniture because he was so angry I got picked up by a major label and it was the corniest thing in the world that could possibly happen...

"I wish I enjoyed it because I had this person on my shoulder the whole time saying, 'It's s**t, it's s**t, it's s**t. You shouldn't be on the charts. You shouldn't be in the magazines and you should not be going to interviews. You should not be doing collaborations with famous people. You should be an underground artist.'"

Diplo responded to M.I.A.'s outburst this week (begs20Apr15), admitting to Billboard.com, "Nothing she said is a lie", and he went one step further by claiming the British rapper actually apologised to him the day after the Rolling Stone interview was published, even though they hadn't met up in five years.

However, M.I.A. has a different account of their meeting.

Taking to Twitter.com on Thursday (23Apr15), she commented, "I didn't apologies (sic), I said you owe an apology to my people".
