Lil Wayne tops Kanye West and Jay-Z's iTunes record

Lil Wayne's new album Tha Carter Iv has smashed Jay-Z and Kanye West's iTunes sales records, after 300,000 downloads were snapped up in just four days.

Kanye West and Jay-Z's Watch the Throne went on sale exclusively through iTunes in its first week last month (Aug11), selling 290,000 units in a week, beating the download record previously held by Coldplay for 2008's Viva La Vida Or Death and All His Friends.

Now Lil Wayne has already exceeded the iTunes record after just four days, despite the album leaking online prior to its release.

Tha Carter IV is expected to sell around 850,000 copies overall, which would make it the biggest first-week sale for a male artist since the Lollipop hitmaker's Tha Carter III in 2008.

Official first-week sales figures will be released on Wednesday (07Sep11).
