Lana Del Rey on a high despite bad reviews

Lana Del Rey has thanked fans for catapulting her to the top of the charts, insisting the triumph has lessened the blow she felt reading bad reviews of her debut album.

The star launched to fame with her single Video Games last year (11) but her eagerly anticipated first album, Born To Die, has been widely panned, with a reviewer for music bible Rolling Stone calling it "dull, dreary and pop-starved".

Despite the critical mauling, Del Rey has shot to number one in more than 10 countries on digital retailer iTunes, and she's taken to Twitter.com to thank fans for the encouragement.

She writes, "Thank you for making the record #1 in 11 countries. Your sweet words have softened the effect of even the harshest reviews. I adore you."
