Kim Kardashian has reportedly secretly bought a watch at auction that belonged to former First Lady Jackie Kennedy.

According to editors at TMZ, the reality star placed the winning bid for a gold Cartier Tank watch previously owned by the celebrated style icon who was married to President John F. Kennedy.

Auction house Christie's estimated that the timepiece would fetch in the region of $60,000 to $120,000 (£47,000 - £94,000), but Kim's winning bid of $379,500 was more than three times the higher amount.

The Cartier watch, which appears on the First Lady’s wrist in many now iconic photographs of her, was a gift from brother-in-law Prince Stanislaw "Stas" Radziwill, reports the website. It was gifted to her months before the assassination of her husband. The watch is engraved with the date 23 February, 1963.

The timepiece is very understated in its design, with a gold square face and a textured black leather strap. The lot also included one of Jackie's paintings.

A description on Christie's website describes the timepiece as "a remarkable link not only to the lofty ideals of the ‘Camelot’ presidency, but also to President John F. Kennedy’s unique charisma."

The bling-free watch is in keeping with Kim's alleged vow to lead a less extravagant life in the public eye after she was the victim of an armed robbery in Paris last October (17).

The Selfie author was bound, gagged, and held at gunpoint as masked men raided her Paris apartment and escaped with valuables including her $4 million diamond engagement ring - a gift from husband Kanye West.
