Gwyneth Paltrow enlists celebrity friends for charity closet sale

Gwyneth Paltrow has called on her famous friends to offer up their favorite designer pieces for her annual celebrity closet sale.

The actress has asked seven of her pals, including Anne Hathaway, Drew Barrymore and Lena Dunham, to dig through their wardrobes and offer up clothes and accessories. The goods, which include designer items and personal pieces, will then be up for grabs on Goop.com, Gwyneth's lifestyle website. The sale will commence on the website from midday on Thursday (14Jul16) and end when all 46 items are sold out. All proceeds from the sale will go to DonorsChoose, a non-profit organization which allows public school teachers to crowdsource funds for their classrooms, as well as Children's Rights, the foster care charity founded by civil-rights attorney Marcia Robinson Lowry.

"My colleagues and I would all say that one of the major perks of being in the public eye is the dresses we put on when we are doing just that," Gwyneth told WWD. "We look forward to the annual Goop charity closet sale, where we open our wardrobes to raise money for children in need across America."

While many of the items were given to the celebrities as gifts, there are some store-bought items included. Among the pieces are garments from designers such as Givenchy, Celine and Alexander McQueen, with prices ranging from $35 for an H&M skirt to $2,500 for a black Valentino military-style coat with stars for buttons. For her part, Gwyneth donated a grey Givenchy wool jacket, a silver Prada dress and an Alexander McQueen clutch.

The Devil Wears Prada star Anne fittingly offered up a pair of red Prada pumps as well as a pale pink Givenchy dress. Girls co-creator Lena contributed a maroon floral top from Miu Miu and Manolo Blahnik black and white striped flats, while Drew donated a pair of black Tory Burch flats and a striking Celine blue leather Phantom tote bag.
