Gina Rodriguez needed rabies shots after 'terrifying' monkey attack

Actress Gina Rodriguez had to get eight rabies shots after she was bitten by a monkey while on vacation in Thailand last year (16).

The Jane The Virgin star traveled to Thailand in December (16) with her "awesome" boyfriend Joe LoCicero, and while the vacation was a blast, she ended up needing a little emergency medical attention after getting a little too close to the local animals.

"It broke skin and it was terrifying," she recalled to U.S. talk show host Ellen DeGeneres. "But what's crazy is that it was the most magical experience of my life. I go and get peanuts, it's an hour experience, I have monkeys crawling all over me.

"I feel like I'm Pocahontas, I'm like a Disney character," she continued. "I'm singing, not very well, and the monkeys are just hanging all over me."

Gina also used the trip to learn a little Muay Thai, and now the 32-year-old would love to put her combat skills to the test in a real fight.

"I love Muay Thai. I love fighting. I've been boxing since I've been three," she said. "I wanted to learn something new so I went (to Thailand)."

Asked if she will soon be stepping into the ring for a real match, Gina admitted, "I kind of want to... I want to do an amateur fight. I want to fight. I want to see what it's like."

Gina, whose father Genaro has been a top boxing official for over three decades, previously revealed she uses her passion for the sport to help her stay fit, especially as she continues to battle autoimmune illness Hashimoto's disease, which can make it tough to maintain her weight.

"If I can at least walk for 30 minutes a day, it's extremely helpful for my thyroid gland," she told Health.com last year (16). "Running, boxing, jump rope, and hitting the heavy bag are my workout constants."
