Ferrera's national anthem name shame

Written by . Published: November 21 2011

Actress America Ferrera's hatred of her name peaked during her teen years after her high school teacher pushed her around a classroom on a chair while singing the national anthem.

The Ugly Betty star's name is perfect for Hollywood, but Ferrera has revealed she was so embarrassed of her patriotic moniker as a youngster, she called herself by her middle name, Georgina.

But the star grew to really despise her name after a teacher made her the focus of a class rendition of The Star-Spangled Banner.

Ferrera tells Britain's You magazine, "Growing up I hated my name because it was such an easy one for people to make fun of. I remember once, when I was 13, my history teacher sat me down in a wheelie chair and rolled me around the class singing the national anthem."
