Ed Sheeran and John Mayer design tattoos for each other

Singers Ed Sheeran and John Mayer have gone under the needle to get tattoos designed by one another inked onto their bodies.

Rocker Mayer was preparing for the final night of his three-day guest-hosting stint on The Late Late Show on Friday (06Feb15) when he proposed he and his interviewee Sheeran draw something small to have tattooed on each other's bodies.

The Thinking Out Loud hitmaker agreed and they both had the work done backstage at the talk show's studio by artists from West Hollywood's Shamrock Social Club tattoo parlor.

However, the stars were not allowed to look at the designs until they did the big reveal on air.

Mayer's sketch for Sheeran, inked onto his right bicep, featured a small arrow pointing towards the Brit's face, alongside the words 'Kool Guy', while the Your Body is a Wonderland rocker, who has a reputation as a ladies' man, had to unbutton his shirt to reveal an "amazing" chest tattoo of a small cat.

Explaining the reasoning for his drawing, a cheeky Sheeran said, "Mine has double meaning because like, when you show it to kids you can be like, 'Oh, it's a little kitty cat' and when you chat up women, you can be like, 'Oh, I'm into p**sy'."

Mayer famously dated Sheeran's close pal Taylor Swift for a brief period in 2010 and even poked fun at their relationship at the top of Friday's The Late Late Show as he discussed Sunday's (08Feb15) Grammy Awards.

The 37 year old, who has reportedly reunited with on/off girlfriend and Swift rival Katy Perry, quipped, "You can see me at the Grammy Awards doing what I do best. Being avoided by Taylor Swift."
