Daniel Radcliffe to star real-life prison break film

Daniel Radcliffe has signed on to star in real-life prison break drama Escape From Pretoria.

The star will reunite with Harry Potter producer David Barron on the project, which is based on Tim Jenkin's autobiography Inside Out: Escape From Pretoria Prison.

Francis Annan is writing and directing the movie, in which Daniel will portray Jenkin, a South African man who was accused of terrorism in 1978 for participating in a top secret, anti-apartheid operation for the African National Congress. Jenkin planned his escape from the Pretoria Maximum Security Prison with another inmate.

"Political without being polemical, Escape From Pretoria is a rare combination of genre and drama, and I am delighted to bring together the potent combination of Daniel Radcliffe and Francis Annan on this astonishing true story," Barron says.

The film is slated to begin shooting in South Africa next year (18), according to Variety.com.

The movie news comes a day after it was announced Radcliffe is teaming up with Owen Wilson to star in and executive produce a TV anthology series, titled Miracle Workers - a seven-episode show based on Simon Rich's book What in God's Name.

Daniel will play an angel tasked with answering people's prayers, while Owen will star as his boss, God, who is more focused on his hobbies than helping people. The series will premiere on American network TBS next year (18).

Miracle Workers will mark Radcliffe's debut as a TV producer - the young Brit only has one producer credit to his name, and that's for 2016 documentary Circus Kid.

Busy Radcliffe will also be seen in the upcoming films National Theater Live: Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead, Jungle, and Beast of Burden.
