Christina Milian teaches her daughter to grow her own food

Christina Milian grows her own organic vegetables with a little help from her daughter.

The Dip It Low singer's parents taught her how to grow her own healthy food when she was a child and now she's passing on that knowledge to six-year-old Violet, her daughter from her relationship with rapper ex The-Dream.

"(We) literally go in our yard and... I show her what it’s like to grow our own vegetables," the singer and actress explains. "There's a sense of accomplishment when you not only are growing it, but when you eat it.

"The times that we spend at home are usually spent in the kitchen. Half our conversations have to do with food. So we do have a really great appreciation for nature’s finest."

But the 34-year-old's favourite dishes are not all homegrown.

Christina admits she likes "salmon and a big salad", adding, "I really love avocados too, with some olive oil and salt and lemon. Delicious! And asparagus. I try not to overeat. I think sometimes we eat with our eyes and our minds, thinking this is the last meal I’m ever going to have."

And like most of us, she enjoys a guilty pleasure from time to time: "I like salt and vinegar or pickle-flavoured chips, like dill. Oh, so good."

Milian is not eating too many of those right now, though, as she's preparing to play Magenta in Fox Television's live reworking of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, alongside Laverne Cox, Victoria Justice, Adam Lambert, and Tim Curry.

The TV special will debut in October (16).
