Channing Tatum and Gina Rodriguez are to lead the voice cast for animated movie Smallfoot.

Smallfoot is an animated feature about the Yeti or Abominable Snowman myth, which is being made by Warner Bros.' Warner Animation Group.

Channing and Gina will voice central characters, while actress Zendaya Coleman will make her voice-acting debut with the film, according to The Tracking Board.

At present, Ryan O'Loughlin, Glenn Ficarra and John Requa are credited as directors, while the storyline has been crafted by Ficarra and Requa, the showrunners of NBC's hit show This Is Us, from a concept by Rio character designer Sergio Pablos.

The plot is expected to flip the Yeti myth on its head, and tell of a figure who is convinced that elusive creatures known as "humans" really do exist.

Channing is no stranger to voice-acting having voiced Superman in The LEGO Movie and The LEGO Batman Movie, as well as a lead part in The Book of Life. In addition, it was reported in March (17) that he is to take on the role of George Washington in Netflix's R-rated revisionist animated movie America: The Motion Picture.

While Gina has also logged several voice-acting roles including voicing Una in Twentieth Century Fox Animation's Ferdinand, and the character of Mary in Sony Pictures Animation's The Star, both of which are slated to hit theaters later in the year (17).

The Jane the Virgin star is also reportedly heading to Netflix as the voice of Carmen Sandiego in a new animated show, based on the classic video game series Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?

Smallfoot is scheduled to hit theaters on 14 September, 2018.
