Ben Affleck: 'Stalker made me feel protective of my family'

Written by . Published: October 11 2012

Ben Affleck felt an extra responsibility to protect his family after a man was arrested on suspicion of stalking his wife Jennifer Garner.

Steven Burky was ordered to stay away from Garner in 2008 and was arrested a year later (09) after he was spotted outside her daughter Violet's school in Los Angeles.

He pleaded no contest to charges of felony stalking in 2010, but a judge later ruled he should be sent to a state mental hospital and ordered him to stay away from the Hollywood couple for 10 years.

Affleck has now opened up about the effect the case had on his family and reveals he found himself feeling more protective of his loved ones than ever before.

He tells The Hollywood Reporter, "The stalker had been to our house many times and ultimately came to my children's school and was arrested. It gave me a stronger sense of feeling protective about my family. There's a lot of crazy, weird people out there. It's an ugly world."
