Anne Hathaway suffered BAFTAs nightmare

Anne Hathaway feared she was in for a terrible night at an awards ceremony in London on Sunday (10Feb13) as she was sick with flu, tore her designer dress before the show and was booed by fans on the red carpet.

The actress suffered a last-minute wardrobe malfunction shortly before the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Film Awards when she ripped her designer gown and her stylist's attempts to sew the dress back together failed.

Hathaway tells talk show host Jay Leno she looked like "a turkey that has been sewn together" before opting for her back-up outfit, a studded Burberry number, adding, "How irritating am I? Most women don't even have one great dress, I have two."

The fashion disaster meant Hathaway was running late and ended up rushing into the ceremony at the Royal Opera House without stopping to chat to the crowd waiting outside, prompting boos from disgruntled fans.

She explains, "I was so late that I had to run straight down to the end of the carpet and miss all the interviews. And, the worst part was, I missed the fans. They're out in the cold and the rain and the sleet, and they booed me."

Hathaway was also fighting a bout of influenza at the prizegiving, but admits her night ended on a high note when she was awarded the Best Supporting Actress prize for her turn in Les Miserables.

She says, "I got booed, my dress ripped and I had the flu. But it turned out great. I got to hug George Clooney, and that's the whole point. And, oh yeah, I got a really amazing, prestigious award. That's pretty cool."
