Alia Shawkat: 'I'm bisexual'

Arrested Development star Alia Shawkat has 'come out' as bisexual.

The actress explains she has always been drawn to roles that feature lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) themes because of her sexuality.

"I was a tomboy growing up, and I remember my mom asking me when I was 10, 'Are you attracted to boys or girls?' I said, 'I don't know,'" she tells Out.com.

"Now I consider myself bisexual, and I think balancing my male and female energies has been a big part of me growing as an actor," she adds.

And she wants to continue to appear in projects shining a light on the community because of the current political climate following the election of controversial President Donald Trump.

"I used to be less outspoken," she says. "But as a woman, an Arab-American, and a member of the LGBTQ community, I have to use whatever voice I have. There's no more delicacy in being quiet."
