50 Cent emerges victorious in five-year-old website lawsuit
Written by . Published: March 30 2014
Rapper 50 Cent is celebrating after winning a summary judgement against the owners of a hip-hop website over the unauthorised use of his image and content.
The In Da Club hitmaker, real name Curtis Jackson, launched legal action against bosses at WorldStarHipHop.com back in 2009 after his photo was plastered across the site's homepage on multiple mastheads.
50 Cent alleged the heavy use of his picture could lead some
readers to believe that he was directly involved with the company
and demanded they remove the shots.
Editors fired back at the lawsuit, claiming fair use, but earlier
this week (24Mar14), a New York federal judge dismissed their
arguments and ruled in 50 Cent's favor over his copyright and right
of publicity claims.
