What's up, guys? Young Hollywood is in Sunrise, Florida at the BB&T Center, about to take you behind the scenes of Sir Crystal. And by Crystal, I mean Ice.
Mr. Nathan Price, you are part of the cast and artistic crew of Crystal. That's a lot of titles. Breakdown what you do here on a daily basis.
I have to be very careful about this because last time someone asked me this, I said I kind of do everything in the show, and then I got lambasted by the cast for three months. So, I'm going to pick my words very carefully. I'm officially down as a as a hand-to-hand porter. So, hand-to-hand is a acrobatic discipline where you work with a partner, and you kind of throw them and on a good day, you catch them, and on a bad day, you still catch them, because you always have to catch them. Um,
Wait. We're doing stunts today, so are you having a good day or a bad day today?
That's a good day. It's a good day. You'll be fine. You'll be fine. You'll be fine. You'll be fine. Okay. Setting up for Leslie to do some, uh, hand trapeze. She doesn't quite know what we're going to get her to do yet, but hopefully she'll do it.
I'm ready. We're doing this? Oh my god, I'm so excited.
Okay. What we're going to do today is we're going to do a discipline that's kind of, it's sort of brand new, and we include, we created a lot of the technique for this show, and it's called Hand-to-trap. And it's like half hand-to-hand, half double trapeze. And so I'm not going to be responsible for the throwing you part. I'll do the catching you part, and Jack is going to do the throwing you part. So that's kind of easier for me because it's like half the workload.
Okay. Yeah. Confidence. I've got Confidence. Easy peasy. Easy peasy. Done. Boom. Boom. Here we go. It's like a ghost. Ready? Yeah. Okay. We got upside down. You got to be kidding me. Nailed it.
Of course, this is the 42nd Cirque production, but the first ever on ice. You're doing Cirque stunts on ice.
Yeah. That's Yeah. We have these special spiky shoes that allow us to walk on the ice, and we get so used to them that I'll arrive for work in my regular shoes, and I'll go on the ice and go and do something, and I'll be like, oh, no. And then I have to run back and get my spiky shoes.
So, what's been the most challenging part of being a Cirque performer on ice?
I think if you ask any of the acrobats, I'd say learning to skate. We, uh, in the creations, we had like an hour of skating every single day, and people would just go down hard, like every day, just over and over and over. So, yeah, I think if you ask the acrobats, they're going to say learning to skate. Because that was not a smooth process for a lot of them.
Okay, your skates are way more modern than mine. These are vintage. This wouldn't be a behind-the-scenes segment of Crystal without getting on some skates. We can kind of push you around like a train.
Okay. I can give you like a little like one of these bad boys.
This is great. This is great. This is easy. This is easy. You can do a little swizzly thing. I can do that. And then you got to do like the cool hockey stop thing where I Let me try that stop. Wait. That's that's it. That's it. You What did they used to say to us? You got to do like head, shoulders, hips. It's amazing.
Yes, there's part Cirque du Soleil, circus, ice dancing, ice skating. There's everything in this show.
Oh, yeah. They sort of I think what they were like, yeah, we're going to do an ice skating show. We've never done that before. And then they also just decided they were going to like throw in a bunch of brand new disciplines as well. So, we've got Hand-to-trap that I think has only ever really been done once before on Parallel. And then we've got this thing that doesn't even really have a name yet. We kind of call it Pendula poles. And it's these huge, they're like three-meter swinging poles that people hop on and then we swing them to this huge height and then they jump off, and we have to catch them on a mat and it's like, that had never been done before, and so we were doing that. And so it's been like a bunch of firsts all around, really. hold like hold the wrists, and then we just go around a little circle. And then you just sort of got faster and faster around in a circle. I'm making the noises again. And then when they scream, you stop.
