SUNDAY MUSIC VIDS: St. Paddy's Day Edition

Written by Katie Marzullo. Published: March 17 2013

Happy St. Paddy’s Day! Time to blarney your stone, go bragh your Erins, chase leprechauns, and… Okay, look, I’m not Irish, and I think it’s goofy to pretend to be (even though I have green eyes and am named Katie), but nevertheless, I do have a soft spot for my Green Isle brethren (like John Cusack, and my college roommate Kiesha Flanigan), and even more, I dig their music. Whether it’s mainstream pop, folksy fiddlers, or drinking songs, as long as it has an Irish brogue, count me in.

The U.K. in general but Ireland in particular has an uncanny knack for producing some wildly talented musicians. It’s hard to put one’s finger on exactly why… Perhaps it really does have something to do with that fine, ages-old tradition of Irish drinking songs. When you spend that much of your recreational time making up catchy tunes over a pint or 10, something is bound to stick. The language and accents in particular already have a very musical quality to them, so perhaps the Irish are simply born with a song in their hearts!

So, in honor of the holiday, I present to you a hearty St. Paddy’s playlist, chock full of pink hearts, yellow moons, orange stars, green clov—oops, there I go again. Anyway, enjoy!
