Asphalt Yacht Club Launches Skate-Style Line in Malibu
Written by Danielle Koch
Anyone who thinks yacht clubs were just made for people with (extravagant) boats is seriously wrong.
Enter the Asphalt Yacht Club -- “AYC” -- which combines “skate culture, street style, and contemporary fashion into one.” It was founded by pro skateboarder Stevie Williams, with the help of Stefan Janoski, Nyjah Huston, and Justin “Figgy” Figueroa. Accompanying the professionals on the AYC team are the amateur skaters consisting of Riley Hawk, Derrick Wilson, Ben Nordberg, and Ben Carpenter.
The AYC is bringing their “street style” to the public with the launch of its own clothing line, officially coming out August 15. It first made its debut at the 2013 Agenda Tradeshow in Long Beach, CA, and buzz about the release has been swirling ever since. Most recently, there was an AYC launch party at the Malibu Inn over the weekend, and the celebrity sightings were through the roof. A few notables include: John Stamos, Stacy Keibler, Scott Disick, Audrina Patridge, Rob Dyrdek, Chord Overstreet, Paris Hilton, and LMFAO’s Sky Blu. Yeah, I guess you could say the guest list was pretty loaded.
As if the event couldn’t get any better with those appearances, French Montana took the stage to perform a number of songs. The AYC definitely took launching a clothing line to a completely new level. It sounds like it was the place to be Saturday night.
It’s always an interesting move for athletes to dip their hands into the fashion industry because they seem like two different realms. Hopefully the clothing line lives up to the hype!
