4 Other Things You Can Do On Amazon (Besides Buy Books & Stream TV Shows!)

Written by Hannah Brown. Published: February 03 2016

Launched in 1994, Amazon has grown immensely in the past 22 years and changed the way we shop and consume entertainment. It originally started as an online bookstore, but now it is so, so much more than that. You can get just about anything you need without leaving your house. Let us count the ways...

Amazon Fire TV

First and foremost, Amazon has released Amazon Fire TV for streaming high definition content. You can watch Netflix, Hulu, HBO GO, and so much more, including the newly-launched Young Hollywood app on Fire TV, so be sure to watch us too!

Amazon Dash

Another unique service that Amazon offers is Amazon Dash. How this works is, you buy the buttons for the brands that you use the most frequently, and, ideally, you would place them near the item. For example, if you order a Tide button, you place it on your washer right next to the settings buttons. These dash buttons are pretty small, so they won’t take up much space. When you run out of your item, you simply push the button and Amazon immediately begins processing your order for your next bottle of Tide to ship right to your doorstep! It is a WiFi-connected device that works directly with the Amazon App. You will receive a text when the item is ordered, and you may cancel if you made a mistake. Just for an idea, dash buttons are made for tons of brands such as Gatorade, Maxwell House, Kraft, Gilette, LO’real, Huggies, and more.

Amazon Prime Now

Another recent upgrade Amazon is making to their site is Prime Now. If you already have Amazon Prime, you can use this feature. Thousands of items are now available on Prime Now for two-hour free delivery. You may also get one-hour delivery for $7.99. You can even put in your zip code and see if you are in an area eligible for 1-hour delivery from local restaurants right to your doorstep.

And More!

Some other unique services Amazon offers include music, the Kindle e-reader, Cloud drive for storage, movies with Prime, and Amazon pantry, which is a way to go grocery shopping without leaving your house. You simply choose items to put in your cart and have them all delivered to your door at once. There is a $5.99 cost for delivery of each box, but if you’re in the middle of a snowstorm, its probably worth it!

As Amazon continues to expand, more and more services are offered to make life easier and more convenient for the consumer. What will they come up with next? Stay tuned…
