2012 MTV VMAs: Up Close and Personal!
Written by Raffy Ermac
The 2012 MTV VMAs were nothing but full energy and excitement as stars from all across the globe came to Los Angeles to pack the house at Staples Center for the annual celebration of this year’s best in music and, more importantly, its artistic visual component.
All the excitement could be felt around downtown L.A. hours before the VMAs even started. Fans were already lining up early in the hopes of catching a glimpse of their favorite stars.
Bystanders went absolutely nuts when the likes of The Wanted, Rita Ora, Kat Graham, Beau Mirchoff and Brett Davern of MTV’s “Awkward.”, Ne-Yo, Colton Haynes, Miley Cyrus, and others donned the red carpet to greet the fans, talk to reporters, and make their entrance.
“It’s a blessing,” said rapper Sammy Adams about being able to attend the VMAs as an artist at such a young age. “It’s a testament to the fans and how hard they worked.”
When asked about who he was most excited to see perform on the VMA stage, Adams didn’t hesitate to say, “Taylor Swift and Weezy.”
Even though the night was already slated to have a bevy of amazing performers, Demi Lovato took the stage for an amazing pre-show performance of her new hit song, “Give Your Heart a Break”, that had the whole crowd buzzing in complete and utter excitement. She even gave away a pair of tickets to some lucky fans to take part in the VMAs!

When all the red carpet festivities were done, the real enjoyment started off with superstar and pop queen Rihanna taking the stage to perform the remix of “Cockiness” with A$AP Rocky, as well as her smash “We Found Love” with VMA house DJ Calvin Harris, the latter of which she won the prestigious, and best award of the night, Video of the Year, for.
A stunning Katy Perry gave away the award for Best Pop Video to One Direction, who are flying on top of the world right now after winning two other Moonmen, making that three in total. The boy band of U.K. heartthrobs then performed “One Things”, another hit from their debut album “Up All Night”, which had the entirety of the Staples Center jumping up and down.
Crooner Frank Ocean performed a tear-jerking rendition of his single “Thinkin Bout You”, and P!nk rocked the house with her performance of “(Blow Me) One Last Kiss.”
Other performers included Green Day, Alicia Keys, 2 Chainz, Nicki Minaj, and Taylor Swift, who concluded the night with her hit “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”, complete with crowd-surfing and all!
As if that superstar lineup of performers wasn’t enough, presenters of many awards, ranging from Best Male and Female videos to Best Hip Hop included Rashida Jones, Andy Samberg, Emma Watson, Dwight Howard, The “Fierce Five” U.S. Olympic Gymnastics team, and Rebel Wilson.
Last but not least, the extremely talented hosting skills of funny man Kevin Hart, who, with many jokes, entertained the massive Staples Center audience, and nationwide viewership with his hilarious commentary on what’s going on in pop culture nowadays.
This year’s VMAs were nothing short of spectacular, and, without exaggeration, the best one yet. We can’t wait what next year has in store for us!
